[Video] Maurice A. Lanier (@MRLanier) - We Are The Culture

Maurice Lanier (born Maurice Andre Murphy on July 16, 1982) is a singer, songwriter, and arranger based in Washington, D.C. His eclectic influence on music is just as diverse as his culturally-diverse background. Due to his parents' honorable service in the United States Air Force, Lanier was naturally inclined to adapt to several different cultures over his life as he moved around the globe from his childhood all the way into his early adulthood. Born on Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, Lanier was raised moving around the United States and Europe including various cities in New York, Georgia, Massachusetts, Texas, Germany, and later moved to Washington, D.C. to join his mother and reunite with their family who are natives of the D.C. Metropolitan Area.

Maurice Lanier treasures the gifts and influences of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Stevie Wonder, Joe Cocker, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, Fred Astaire, Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Chuck Mangione, The Gap Band, Bilal Oliver, Lauryn Hill, and Kim Burrell as a major part of his musical savvy. His late grandmother, Mary Murphy, was the matriarch of their family and hailed as a distinguishably skilled poet, author, and songwriter of her time. She was known by the family to have submitted a song to a Motown producer in the 1960's, and to have heard the song she wrote on the radio. Lanier carries on her legacy of soul, spirituality, freedom, justice, poetry, music, and laughter into this era of contemporary sounds. Lanier's life experiences www.officialmrlanier.com

[Mixtape] Maceo (@MaceoWorld) - Mexico City 2

A lot of guys rap about putting their "homies" on from the hood, but I can truly say that my FAM ATL & Freeband Gang's own Maceo (@MaceoWorld) is working hard at making sure his ENTIRE hood shines. From the dope hole & 44 Paradise which is also hippy/urban + 2blocks from the precinct is now one of the most talked about areas of Atlanta. Seasoning artists like Future, Scooter, Gucci, Slick Pulla, 550 & more Kirkwood aka Lil Mexico is definitely a place to be on display in the music scene. Maceo is one of those highly respected artists who are able and willing to do so with his affiliation to FREEBANDZ and CEO of his own 94 ENTERTAINMENT. With this second volume to “Welcome to Mexico City”, he does just that, adding many more from the hood like Mexico Rann, Young Scooter + more raw & different talent with our own lingo spread throughout the Mixtape. Enjoy the video shot in lil Mexico & download Mixtape below!

[EP] Omar Beal (@OmarBeal) - Mob

WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA—Since the third grade, 20-year-old Omar Beal has been perfecting his craft, hoping to one day join the ranks of his rap icons like Meek Mill, Eminem and J.Cole. “When I was in elementary school, we had to do a survey that asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Most people picked normal jobs. I picked rapper,” laughed Beal. “Ever since then, that’s what I’ve wanted to do, and I’ve been actively pursuing it.” Originally from Patterson, New Jersey, Beal moved to Winchester, Virginia with his mom in 2008 for a better life—a move he doesn’t regret one bit. “Where I’m from people die every other two weeks to be honest with you,” stated Beal. “My mom and I were poor. We lived with my grandmother. She then got a job at Ford Motor Company in Virginia making more than twice the amount of money she was making back home. It’s just better down here.” It’s his past, however, that has served as the inspiration for many of his lyrics—including on his debut EP. “Most rappers rap about money, girls and fancy clothes,” stated Beal. “I rap about my struggles and how my mom and I are living better today.” Countless hours and hard work went into producing his first major project, but in the end he believes fans of hip hop music will be pleasantly surprised with the outcome. “I describe my sound as ‘hype music’ and very energetic,” stated Beal. “I put about 12 hours into my music every other day. I hope when people hear my music, they can’t wait to hear more. I don’t want to be a one-hit-wonder.” To learn more about Omar Beal, check him out on Twitter. [Single] Santiago (@SantiagoMafia) - Ride Foreign

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Original, authentic, deep—all adjectives that perfectly describe hip hop artist Santiago. However, along with his originality, the young artist is also a survivor. “I’ve been around a whole lot of tragedy. I’m a gunshot victim. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I’ve also served time in prison,” admitted Santiago. “I have a whole family history of violence. My brother was shot, and he died in the car on the way to the hospital. I have grandfathers and uncles who were kingpins and murdered.” Through his music, Santiago hopes to serve as an inspiration for others who’ve lived a life of tragedy and misfortune. “My goal is to bring us up out of that,” explained Santiago. “I want people to know that tomorrow is a new day, and there is a way out of the streets. You just have to be determined, persistent and keep your eyes on your goals.” For Santiago’s album title, it means much more than just another synonym for gangstas.

“M.A.F.I.A. stands for money and fame in America,” explained Santiago. “The first single off the album will be a track called On My Own. It’s like a street anthem. It’s about whatever I have I got on my own.” To learn more about Santiago, check him out on his website by clicking here. You can also find him on Twitter.
